About Us
The Company Stuff
This is where you'd expect to find all that talk about philosophies and 'how we like to work towards collective goals to achieve a synergy with our clients' etc etc etc......

In fact, e-what? is a simple little affair. And we like to avoid all that overly flowery corporate hogwash that seems to be in such favour these days. ("Just tell me who you are!" - I scream to myself when I read that rubbish on web sites)

So here's the real e-what? "about us"....

Who are we? Simon Scoltock is our software development 'guru', and I (Cliff Field) handle the web development side of things. Combined, the two of us have close to 20 years in the IT industry.

Simon and I set e-what? up as a vehicle to allow us to work more easily. Way back before the days of e-what?, a lot of our work was dependant on third party providers, for whom some of our requests seemed too difficult to implement. Time and time again we'd be told;
"Sorry, we don't allow that component on our server"
or
"We don't support that on our systems - we can add it though for (insert big dollar figure here)..."
Essentially it became more of an annoyance than we were prepared to cope with. We decided to set up our own little operation to ease the pain. We were very proud of our one web server back then - and we've not looked back since.

In those five years since day dot, we have expanded a little. We now have a fairly substantial client base - although we're wary of becoming a 'big player' as we really don't like a lot of the culture that goes with being a large firm. Being small makes us a little more flexible - and as an added bonus to you, it doesn't cost you $65 to "speak to one of our technical staff"....

So what work have we done? It's ranged from 300 dollar single page websites through to expensive freight management and booking systems. Simon has done work in the past for Fliway, TVNZ, TVCAB, McKay Shipping and a plethora (sorry big word used there) of other clients, whilst I have worked with the Freightways Group, TVCAB, TVNZ, Diagnostic Med Labs and a bunch of people and companies you've probably never heard of.....So yep, we do the small stuff too.

Although Simon's main focus is software, and mine web development, the line between two areas has been somewhat blurred in recent times. Lately I have been concentrating more and more on the software side of things too (although there is always web work to be done).

Like many smaller NZ companies, we have a few partners helping us out. Each has their specific function within our little world. "Hot the Agency" is an excellent design firm we work with (if you're looking for high-end design these are your people) and Acronym helps us with software and systems support/development (networking whiz kids). In fact, Simon and I used to work for Chris (of Acronym) way back in the days........

The Personal stuff
Simon and I don't 'live to work' - we enjoy our time away from the keyboard and screen. Simon is a qualified outdoor instructor and can often been seen buried deep in snow somewhere up the side of a mountain, or taking groups of youths on kayaking trips etc. Whereas I race a car and pedal my mountain bike madly whenever I get the chance. It's hard to find balance in one's life, but we do our best.

I guess that's about it really. That's our "about us" spiel. Sorry if you were expecting the big flowery corporate type thingy......

Oh by the way, if want any technical info about what we do, take a look at the services page.

Cliff
